Background

Closer To Judaism (CTJ) is an educational program that supports Jewish individuals working towards living an orthodox lifestyle through structured online courses. Their mission is to empower you to live a Torah-observant lifestyle with utmost confidence.
To aid in their mission, CTJ wanted a blessings mobile application to assist English-speaking Jewish adults in learning the common Jewish blessings used when living a Torah-observant lifestyle.

How can we help?

Many English-speaking Jewish adults never learn to read or speak Hebrew, yet leading an orthodox observant lifestyle requires them to know how to read selected prayers out loud in Hebrew to participate in life within an orthodox community.

How might we enable English-speaking Jewish adults to learn enough Hebrew to say necessary Hebrew blessings?

This mobile app helps English-speaking Jewish adults to comfortably memorize and say Hebrew blessings without learning to speak or read the Hebrew language.

Role / Team

Beginning September of 2021 the UX team proposed a productized version of thethe design of the pickup experience between October 2015 and June 2016 and collaborated with two other designers on the Home screen, Search and On Trip features. In addition, I worked alongside a Researcher, Prototyper, Content Strategist and 2 Product Managers. I stopped working on the project during the detailed visual design phase as the app started to be built. The app launched globally on November 2nd, 2016.

To take advantage of the newest features, many larger non-profits would need to revert to the default experience, which provides very basic functionality and a less-than-optimal user experience. The nation's largest non-profits rely on significant customizations. While smaller non-profits don't have the budget to customize the default functionality. The UX team at Charity Dynamics proposed the creation of a productized version of Charity Dynamics’ enhanced Participant Center 3 that can be deployed quickly with minimal team resources. This offers clients more functionality and a more branded experience than Blackbaud’s default PC3. It also offers clients the opportunity to select from a short list of CD specific add-on options such as promos for the Boundless product suite, motion tracking stats, and user engagement tracking through Google Analytics. The expectation with a productized version of the PC3 including all of our best practices is that the hours involved in these PC3 projects will be significantly cut down, from some projects being as high as ~100 hours, to roughly 15 hours to implement from beginning to end. In the case of a client wanting additional customization on top of our baseline product, the design and web dev teams will have a templatized starting point and therefore save hours on the project as a whole.
